Configuring different product attributes
At Skrym, we provide you with the flexibility to configure various attributes of your products to ensure they are packed and shipped efficiently. Here's how you can use our system to customize your products according to your requirements.
We also support product categories, which work similarly to attributes but in a hierarchical manner. See Product Categories for more information.
Organization attributes
You can define any of your own product attributes that are specific to your organization. These attributes can be used in multiple places throughout our system to capture specific packaging requirements or handling instructions for your products.
Optionally, these can be mapped to a set of specific global attribute types that Skrym provides. This allows you to leverage Skrym's built-in logic for handling common packaging scenarios.
Organization attributes can be used in the following places throughout our system:
- Package selection rules for optimization
- Filtering when viewing and exporting products
- Creating conditions in checkout strategies
- Analytics and reporting
Global attribute types
Skrym provides a set of global attribute types that can be used to define common packaging requirements for products. These attributes help Skrym recommend the most suitable packaging options during the optimization process.
To use them, map any of your custom attributes to one of the global attribute types listed below.

in-box | The product can be packed in a box. |
in-bag | The product can be packed in a bag. |
digital | The product is digital and does not require physical packaging. |
as-is | The product is shipped as-is and does not require any additional packaging. |
Attribute Combinations
For products that have multiple attributes, you can combine them to define the packaging requirements for different scenarios. Here are some common attribute combinations and how they will affect the package recommendations provided by Skrym:

as-is + in-box | If the product is sent alone, it is shipped as-is. If it is sent with other products, it is packed in a box. |
as-is + empty space | If the product is sent with other products, we will try to fit the products inside the empty space of the as-is product. If they do not fit, we will pack the other products in a box and the as-is product as-is. |
as-is + in-box + empty space | If the product is sent with other products, we will try to fit the products inside the empty space of the as-is product. If they do not fit, we will pack all the products inside a box. |

How to configure
Automatic product sync
For the product sync integrations we support, we can automatically create attributes and map products to them based on the data from your PIM/ERP system. See Product Data Integrations for more information on available integrations. If your PIM or ERP system is not supported by us, please reach out to us at Skrym support or in Slack.
On Scope
Visit the Products page tab to configure the available attributes for your organization. Here, you can add new attributes, edit existing ones, and map them to the global attribute types provided by Skrym.
To assign attributes to a product, visit the Products page and open the product page. Here you can edit the product attributes by selecting from the available attributes in the dropdown menu.
